Zoroaster was the name of the first oil tanker built and designed by Ludvig Nobel of Sweden in 1878. Ludvig and his sibling were at the helm of affairs at Branobel—a huge oil organization in the 1870s. Ludvig Nobel builds the world's first modern tanker. The transport of oil on the waterways from Baku to the market in Europe required fresh ideas. With his experiences of building tankers for the Russian navy, Ludvig Nobel became the first person to design and order a tanker built of steel. The tanker industry was 120 years old in 2006 and both the fleet and the volume of oil transported worldwide by these highly specialized vessels have grown dramatically since the first tanker set The Batillus was built by the same shipyard as #2 and #3 for the French branch of Shell oil. On October 17, 1985, Royal Dutch Shell sold the ship for scrap for less than $8 million. Her last voyage was from Vestnes, Norway to Kaoshiung, Taiwan where she arrived on December 28, 1985.
